Daily Training: What Happens Before the Lion Wakes

Every performance you see, from a five-minute blessing to a full competition routine, is built on hundreds of hours of daily training (日常练习).
A typical session at our Cheras training ground covers:
- Stances and footwork (马步): the foundation every performer stands on. Low, stable, and repeated until it becomes second nature.
- Drum and cymbal drills: the percussion section runs its rhythms over and over, because the lion can only move as well as the drum speaks.
- Head and tail coordination: two performers learning to move as one animal, practising expressions, jumps, and lifts.
- Conditioning: strength and stamina work, because ten minutes under a lion head is a serious workout.
We train weekly at Jalan Pudu Ulu, Taman Pertama, Cheras, and we welcome complete beginners. Everyone on our team started with a single stance.
